RISEAP/FIANZ Conference 30 June - 4 July 2002

RISEAP, the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of the South East Asia and Pacific, holds its youth conference annually and in 2002, the honour has gone to New Zealand to host the conference. InshaAllah the conference will be held in Auckland from 30 June to 4th July at Zayed College, with the theme “Challenges for the Muslim Youth in the Global Village”.
A wide variety of topics will be presented, ranging from “Islam and Maori Culture” to “Presenting Islam to Non-Muslims”, as well as a variety of sporting and recreational activities including a visit to Rotorua.
The conference is open to both brothers and sisters aged 16-30 yrs. Separate accommodation and facilities will be provided, with the sisters at Zayed College and the brothers at Al-Madinah School. All meals will also be catered for and the participants will simply need to bring themselves, the personal items listed below and most importantly a positive attitude to participate to the fullest and make the most of this awesome opportunity.
The Venue:
The Conference will be held in at Zayed Girls College 44 Westney Road, Mangere, Auckland. The College, which was very recently established in Auckland has excellent facilities for the activities that will be run during the conference, including a large indoor swimming pool.
Although Auckland is warmer than most New Zealand cities, chilly temperatures around 10DC and rain are expected at this time of the year so participants are expected to bring appropriate winter clothing and bedding.

Personal Gear List:
Participants are required to bring:
•Personal medication
•Pillows, blankets, sleeping bag
•Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc)
•Warm jersey (preferably woolen or thick polar fleece)
•Jacket (preferably waterproof with hood)
•Clothing (sufficient for 6 days, including underwear, socks, shirts etc)
•Towels
•Sports shoes and sports gear (track pants or shorts below the knees preferred for brothers)
•Swimming gear (for the sisters)
•Personal Qur’an
•Camera with film (optional)
Conference rules:
1.Dress code: Modest dress covering the awrah is expected, including sisters wearing hijab and brothers with shorts/pants extending below the knees.
2.Behavior: Islamic behaviors and norms are expected, politeness and amicability towards others, no foul language, modesty, haya (shyness) and gazes lowered, no unnecessary interaction between men and women.
3.Respect for the speakers, elders and conference supervisors, including following orders.
4.Cleanliness: keep the facilities clean and maintain a high level of personal hygiene.
5.Staying on premises: permission of the supervisors is required to leave the premises.
6.Housekeeping: participants must be willing to help in duties such as cleaning.
The conference organizers reserve the right to expel participants for unacceptable behavior.
